Monkeys go to the Fair

The wealthy Mommies and Daddies of Brooklyn did me proud.

I've been disillusioned about the charity for which I've been making sock monkeys for several months. I'd spend hours crafting the little buggers, only to take them to the fortnightly sewing meets where they would be unceremoniously stuffed into a huge carrier bag alongside several dozens of other completed monkeys. The "Celebrity Auction" was cancelled, the Fresh Art website has only two monkeys up for sale and they are the same monkeys that have been there for over a year. I really didn't see how all this effort was translating into money for the charity, the whole marketing strategy needs an overhaul, and while I have some ideas as to how this could be done I personally do not have the time to dedicate to it.

Anyway, back to today. For the first time since August (and maybe even earlier than that) the monkeys went on sale, at a craft fair in a grade school in DUMBO, Brooklyn. And you know what, we sold 20+ monkeys at $30 each (after tax). That 20 monkeys included two of mine (evil ski monkey and schoolboy monkey) which I was mightily pleased about, finally the effort paid off in a very real $60 dollar profit for the charity. Hurrah.
