Lost the plot

Somewhere between question 2 and three I rediscovered a bit of knitting mojo....

Maybe between 3 and 4 I'll find the right sized needles to knit this yarn with.
In the meantime, here's Lou Reed.

MIA

I am not knitting. I have not been knitting. This makes for a pretty empty knitting blog.

I haven't touched my needles since I kitchenered up a baby sock on Sunday the 15th. I look at my pile of WIPs and have absolutely no motivation to get them finished. Now why would this be...

Excuse #1.
He's tall, he's German, and he is mighty fine. While not officially "dating" we have been spending an inordinate amount of time together since he arrived in the country only a short month ago. Most of this time has involved evenings in bars and free concerts in parks and hence, not much knitting. Does this bother me? Give me a week or two to figure out where this thing is going and I'll get back to you. I like him, did I mention that?

Excuse #2.
Lab work. I have an intermittent project that while potentially extraordinarily cool means that I get calls at odd hours of the night (usually 5 or 6pm) telling me that patient samples are ready for processing. Processing takes at least two hours. Add to that the back log in microscope booking and my using the 7am time slots to do my work and you get a couple too many 12-15 hour days for my liking. Boo, but also, Yay!

Excuse #3.
I have a take home exam this week. While I am the queen of procrastinators I am struggling a little with this one and it will be a massive time drain until Monday at midnight, the deadline.

Excuse #4.
I rediscovered reading for pleasure. And no, IT IS MOST ABSOLUTELY NOT HARRY POTTER. Ahem. I have no problem with anyone else reading it as long as they do not try to convert me from my Hate the Potter stance with their evangelical zeal. I have my reasons for not wanting to read them and for believing that there are far better things to be spending my time doing. Instead I've read a book about a climbing disaster on Mount Everest, a wannabe serial killer in South Africa and am currently reading a Donna Tart book, The Little Friend.

(The fire alarm is going off at work. I'm undecided as to evacuate or not. Hmmm, it seems to have stopped.)

So you see, no knitting. I go home to the UK in just over a week and will be taking yarn with me so maybe then I can get back to looping string around sticks.

More baby socks

It wasn't all hiking and face planting and sore muscles this weekend. While my friends attempted to annihilate each other via Monopoly, I had my needles busily clicking away for the Uganda box. I know these are going to get boring pretty fast but I promise, after this pair I'm only making one more!

Another random half-skein of acrylic put to good use!

Bear Mountain

Breathe deep! After the exhausting climb up you'll need all the oxygen you can get.

Oh, but wasn't the view worth it! (Inspect your aching hamstring and the burning spots on the palms of your hands from where you tripped over a wire fence face forward into a rock and agree that yes, yes it was.)

Good times.

Hiatus

I'm off upstate for a long weekend of hiking and, um, drinking.

Take care of yourselves, photos when I return!

The Sheep's Revenge

Lab meeting is done. Hurrah!

Now it's time to head out into the city for some $5 Mojitos, Margaritas & Caipirinhas and a late night viewing of Black Sheep. I cannot wait.

Ok so maybe I'll wait til a slightly more decent hour. Maybe.

ETA: A joke from the website...

Where does virgin wool come from?

UGLY SHEEP!

Sockettes

I'm antsy. I need a distraction from the distraction. Now I remember why relationships are hard to get started, all this does he doesn't he crap is driving me round the bend. I'm missing my old rountine of pleasing myself, constantly wondering about someone else is tiring.

Hence baby socks.

Scrappy little things to reflect my scrappy state of mind. Let's hope this current nonsense going on in my head doesn't translate to the Ugandan babies!

Into the Wild

I was reading a whimsical news report a week or so ago that I've found difficult to forget. In the late 1990's a box of rubber bath toys was washed overboard during a storm. These little rubber ducks have been tracked as they made their way around the planet at the mercy of the tidal currents, giving scientist a unique glimpse at how our world really works.

That's how I like to think of my little hats. What stories will they be able to tell? Will the tiny babies they will keep warm know about the girl in New York knitting away on the 4th of July, dreaming about the potential good things that are happening? Will the child grow and flourish or will the story end sadly? I'll never know. But I'll gladly set these little things adrift into the current and let them find their own way home.

Miniature Knitting

On a random wander through blogland last night I came across Brigid's blog and her appeal for knitted baby goods to be sent to Uganda.

Now that I can do! Part of the Adorn goodie bag I won was a couple of skeins of Wool-Ease and a random ball of Moda Dea Psycho Sassy Stripes which will soon be looping their way into hats and booties and all many of things miniature. Like this:

Pattern: Kim's Hat (basic roll brim) from Last Minute Gifts.

Yarn and Needles: Moda Dea Psycho Sassy Stripes and Knit picks 3.75mm dpns.

Yay! I can knit again!

Also.... there's something seriously wrong with my face, I hope the wind doesn't change and I get stuck this way, I mean that would be terrible. I. Can't. Stop. SMILING! :) :) :)

Guess who had a lovely lunch with the BSD and got her Ravelry invitation today today?
