Catching Up

Now with added photographs!!

I've been back in New York since Monday night and I'm slowly adjusting back to this time zone. I freely admit that the copious amounts of Sudafed and nasal decongestants I'm snorting aren't really helping me fit back in but you know what, sleep is far too overrated in comparison to say, breathing.

When I was home in the UK I monoto-knitted my way through 16 baby hats, one pair of baby socks, one pair of worsted weight bed socks for my dad, two pairs of fingering weight adult socks for me and one lonely jaywalker yet to have a mate. Not bad going for three weeks. My Dad's camera and I didn't really hit it off so there were very few pictures so it's time to play catch up!

First things first, I'm heading out to CVS as soon as I'm done posting this to buy some sunless tanner. The glare from my sleep creased, pasty white legs is enough to put anyone off their daily sock viewing. Also, I like how my feet look like a purple puddle at the bottom of my legs in this picture. It's representative how I've been feeling for the past few weeks, melty.

Pattern: My own toe-up amalgamation. Increased toe to 68st, did the cabletini heel with a bit o' fudging of stitch counts, then knit until I got bored, did a 2x2 rib and the sewn cast off. They are the same length, I'm just slouchy.
Yarn: Trekking XXL # 114 bought on sale from Little Knits. LOVE THE TREKKING.
Needles: 2.5mm knit picks DPNs. LOVE THE DPNS.

And of course, we can't forget the second Jaywalkers that I greedily cast on as soon as my grubby little hands got hold of new yarn....

They are a work in progress, I stalled after finishing the first of the pair due to the no needles on the plane rule. And I decided to finish Dundee before starting the next one, or something like that.... My timer is going to go off and I'm feeling light headed from all the oxygen coursing through my sudafed'ed respiratory system. Better go. Laters.

3 billion knitters can't be wrong

Maybe three billion is a bit of an exaggeration but there are 3422 jaywalkers currently listed on Ravelry and three pages of photographs over on Grumperina's site. Finally I understand why...

I think this yarn may well have been designed by Mr Fassett with these socks in mind... Aren't they just FABULOUS?!

So FABULOUS in fact that I had to run out to Abakhan's in Manchester today, despite the lingering ravages of my head cold, to by another couple of skeins in a different colourway to make another pair.

I mean, why not? This pair only took me TWO DAYS.

Pattern: Jaywalkers by Grumperina, Magknits Sept 05
Yarn & Needles: Kaffe Fassett for Regia colour 4259, two 50g balls. KnitPicks DPNs 2.5mm
Modifications: I knit more on the leg because, hell, why not?! Also didn't do the slip stitch edge thing on the foot because snot clouded my vision and I, um, didn't read that bit....

Jaywalking in Manchester

Thank you to everyone who has sent my Dad well wishes. Thankfully the very scary days are over and we are all into the recuperation stage and I will be leaving Manchester much happier than when I arrived.

In the meantime I've been knitting away at just about anything I can get my hands on. I knitted through the small pile of acrylic I picked up at Oxfam churning out maybe a dozen or so baby hats for Hats for Alex, and through the skein of Trekking XXL I brought with me producing a pair of plain stockinette socks that my Dad's camera feels the need to be unable to focus on. So then what? Then I caught a cold and have been producing snot like you wouldn't believe. Nice.

Or alternatively, then I went to Abakhan's in the Northern Quarter of Manchester City Centre where I picked up a couple of skeins of Kaffe Fassett Regia wool to finally give those darned Jaywalkers a go....

And going they are :)

Multiples

When things around me go bat-shit crazy, so do I. Through ICU, High Dependency and on to the regular ward...

That's four evening's worth of knitting. Multitudes of baby hats for Hats for Alex. There are more to come.

And a set for the ward Sister who is due in June...

This is England, they are all acrylic. But they are soft and distracting.
