Old Hat and New

A long time ago, back when I was winning that online auction for the stocking kit, I also won two skeins of hand dyed yarn. Since my friend Annie was kind enough to send me my spoils, I decided to use the yarn to knit hats for her (then) two children. Good intentions! Unfortunately only one hat was ever knit, and it took me a good six months or so to gift it, and then about another year to post about it.

A hat knit a long time ago

But what a pretty hat! I wish I had noted the dyer's details because this yarn is lovely, it positively glows.

Close Up

The pattern I used was Rambled by Dani Sunshine and is available for free on Ravelry.

I've been sick the past few weeks, with an incessant cough that escalated into walking pneumonia. I had to take a couple of days off work and used them to whip up a quick hat for my boyfriend's mom for Christmas, using stash yarn and my newly acquired book, Botanical Knits.

Forest Floor for A's Mom

I made Forrest Floor with a stray skein of Berroco Ultra Alpaca in dark green. Unfortunately the floofy darkness of the yarn makes the cabling difficult to see, and my gauge was apparently tight because I ended up with a beanie rather than a slouch, but it's warm and fits. And A's mom was wearing it today in the snow.

That makes me happy.
