Chante mentioned in the comments that she'd made a shopping bag that folded into itself which lead me on a google search to craftster and to this tutorial. While I can deconstruct a knitting pattern at twenty paces I'm not so good at envisaging where to put seams and such to make something neat and tidy. This tutorial was really clear and the end product is very professional looking if I do say so myself.
The bag has already had its inaugural run to the supermarket and it held up well to a loaf of bread, a bag of carrots, frozen blueberries, strawberries and raspberries, and finally a couple of kiwis. Unfortunately I still came home with two plastic bags. So I immediately made myself another one :)

Very cute! I love the little pocket. One can never have too many pockets...
ReplyDeletegreat idea! I'm also on a bit of a sewing bender at the moment, fun isn't it?! Now I have overcome my fear of scissors, it's a lot more instant gratification than knitting.... (until I balls up and end up spending an hour ripping seams and picking out teeny tiny bits of thread)
ReplyDeleteThat bag looks WAY too cute to be a grocery bag (you should see the ratty ol' canvas ones we drag with us to the market every week)! Super cute- and I love how it folds down!
ReplyDeletei love this bag! such a great idea!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, I forgot to send you the link. My mind is usually going a mile a minute so if I don't do something right then & there, then I forget and move on to the next thing.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you found the tutorial and made it work. I love the fabric choice. I made mine out of denim which turned out to be really sturdy. I had planned on adding some sort of embroidery to the pocket but it never happened.
