Who you gonna call? STASH-BUSTERS!

I admit it. I have a lot of yarn. A lot of ill-bought, ill-conceived yarn. The Smiley's annual Manhattan yarn sale is, for the most part, responsible for my dubious large scale purchases. There's something about being in a room full of people buying fun fur that forces you to walk out with $100 worth of 100% wool as if you are some kind of example to be followed.

That's how I explain owning 4000 yards of Filatura Lanarota Chaco. Don't get me wrong, for a discount worsted weight wool it's great, hell I thought so at the time of purchase, but now I'm a little more dubious about my colour choices and the likelihood that I will ever knit the sweaters that I specifically bought it for. (Hmm, I did swatch for the Marseilles pullover in Chaco but I'm glad I waited for the Uraguay DK...)

But, if I am going to allow myself to buy yarn again sometime in the next century I really do have to find something to knit this up into. Thanks to Jared I did. Behold the amorphous mass that is the Hemlock Ring Blanket!

Now behold it in photoshopped crazy colours! (I swear my camera is turning into a grumpy old man, it hasn't photographed a true colour in months!)

I started this on Saturday afternoon and am already two balls in and up to row 41 of the feather and fan chart. The stitches are split between two needles and the rows are getting longer and longer and longer and longer.... I'm knitting this at quite probably too small a gauge (uh huh, no swatching here) so I'm probably going to have to add more repeats to the chart to get a decent sized blanket. Not that there's any rush, this spur of the moment project has no designated home and no deadline!

  1. The blanket looks great. I wonder how big it is going to be, and how many needles you will have to use. Can't wait to see the progression.
