Here's an incredibly glamorous picture of my newly finished socks fresh off the needles and freed from the final weaving in of ends at the Sit n' Knit New York Sock Meetup. (Photo courtesy of Annie). Please note the beautiful arrangement of my discarded socks in my scuffed boots and the fabulous way my pasty white legs show off the details of the lace. Classy.Pattern: Stockings for a Young Lady from Knitting Vintage Socks. I'm telling you, just buy the book already.
Yarn and Needles: Hand-dyed 100% super wash merino in the colourway "Christina" (hence the post title) by Ruby297 from Etsy. I really got my bang for my buck with this yarn, I think I probably have about a third of the skein left despite knitting the longest socks of my life. The needles were my one and only pair of dpns, Susan Bates #1s.
Modifications: I added about 15 rows of plain stockinette before the toe decreases and added maybe five more rows in between decreases to compensate for the fact that the pattern was written for a size 7 foot. For some reason while knitting the first sock (I blame snot) my brain forgot that I have size 8 plates o' meat and I stopped the lace when the pattern said to. But all in all I think I prefer my toes to be completely covered in stockinette, I have delicate little toes prone to rubbing so the extra cushion is always welcome.
I am completely in love with these socks. I feel we will have a long and happy life together, Hallmark style, although if they get me kissing teddy bears for Valentine's Day... it's OVER. Did I mention that I bought a pair of shoes specifically to wear the socks with?
In other news I sold one of my sock monkeys from my Etsy store today! Hooray! This was one of the monkeys I made for charity and so the proceeds will be going to FreshArtNYC. Although the monkeys haven't been making much of an appearance on the blog lately I'm still volunteering as much as possible and have made maybe two more monkeys already this year. I just keep forgetting to take my camera along to the sewing circle. Maybe I'll try harder next time....
Very cute socks!
ReplyDeleteGreat socks, perfect for any 'young lady'. Good times yesterday, good times...

Oh--and what shoes are those? I want some!

The shoes are from Aerosoles and were about $50. Not a bad price for the ability to flash your handiwork to the unsuspecting masses.
